History of New Era
In 1920, Koch Ehrhardt founded his own hat company, E. Koch Cap Co. His company started with 14 employees and was located on the third floor of 1830 Geneva Street at the corner of Bailey in Buffalo, New York. In 1922, the company was renamed the New Era Cap Company. In 1932, the company designed the first version of a baseball cap. Two years later, the company started producing its first professional baseball team caps: the Cleveland Indians caps. This was in the years before exclusive licensing, so New Era faced competition from other cap-producing companies. Their main competitors were Wilson, Spalding, Rawlings, McAulife (later KM Pro, then Roman Pro), and a number of other companies. Around the 1940s, New Era produced caps for many professional baseball teams. In the late 1940s, New Era released their adjustable caps.
